Winter follow up

Here are some photos of the fantastic new home for my favorite, "Red Horizon"

Last but not least, I did some work at a new local restaurant. I installed a wood wall and helped with lighting and art. Here's a little photo composition.

What's been happening this winter?

We've been pretty busy. Late in the fall I finished the "Portraits" series and most of the pieces immediatly left the studio. They made their appearances in a couple of different yoga studios in support of the Off The Mat charity, with a part of sales going to help fund a humanitarian aid trip to Hati.

In January, one of my favorite pieces, "Red Horizon" sold to a collector in West Hollywood, CA. The piece is 6 x 6 feet, a whole lot of beautiful, confronting red.

Recently I donated 5 pieces to the Itty Bitty Art Show at the Lois Lambert Gallery of Functional Art in Bergamont Station, Santa Monica, CA. All proceeds went to benefit PS#1 and other community based projects. Click on the image to see my development of the pieces.

In March I will have a piece in a silent auction at the Beverly Hills Country Club supporting PAVE.

Right now I'm working on some pieces commisioned for a new restaurant. They are going to be a combination of acrylic and pastels on sanded, rusted metal. Here's a look at the first stage.

Farewell to an Old Friend

I'm pleased to announce that the piece "Red Horizon" has sold. It has a great new home in the beautiful penthouse of a collector in West Hollywood. "Red Horizon" has an active history, it was part of a Barclays Bank commercial that aired in the UK. It was also part of a print ad campaign for Victoria's Secret shot by Ellen Von Unwerth.

I've done a little reconfiguring of my last project. As many of these things do, it took big turn in direction. Here are some quick snap-shots from the studio.

In theory

This is, in theory, how this new piece is going to develop. I have 12 panels that are 24" x 40" each. The final size should be about 8 x 10 feet. These digital sketches represent roughly how the composition will develop. The colors in the sketches are arbitrary, the final colors will be different, but the overall pallet, I think, will be similar.

I was in Omaha, NE recently for the Berkshire Hathaway Weekend and attended an event at the Kaneko. I had the good fortune of saying hello to Jun and Ree, as well as meeting a number of great people. A friend snapped this pic of me with one of Jun's pieces. Awesome composition, you can get an idea of the scale of his work, which carries an amazing and inspiring presence. JunKaneko.com

Answering a few questions, visually speaking

I've been getting a lot of questions about how the new series is developing. Here are a few preliminary pieces/sketches/ideas. I put together these compilations to give a simplified visual breakdown of the thought process. They cover the basic idea pretty well; and (as usual) as the series progresses, the end of the road can turn out to look nothing like the beginning. The left hand image in each compilation is a photo.
